New Jersey Kayak's Introduction To Coastal Sea Kayak Touring is your opportunity to learn and experience the joy and sport of kayaking. Kayaking is a fluid exercise that provides a great way to stay in shape and experience adventure. Paddle with friends, old & new, who share the same interest in discovering this very rewarding sport.

Women's Introduction to Coastal Sea Kayak Touring

Itinerary:
Please arrive at 10:30 unless notified for different time. At least 1/2 hour of fitting of kayak, PFD and signing of wavier, etc. Welcoming coffee, tea and light snack will be provided.
There will be a short discussion about what makes a sea touring kayak as opposed to a recreational kayak as a sit-on-top, followed by on land demonstration of paddling techniques and a review of kayak tour route and what to expect.
Our kayak tour is within the surrounding wetland EBF Wildlife Refuge.

Besides the education, adventure and exercise of the kayak tour, it is mainly meant to be a fun, relaxing time just for women.

. Please bring a change of clothing and consider the following paddling attire:
Quick drying light weight shirt and short or pant (cotton is not a good material when wet as in jeans), hat, towel, sunglasses, sunscreen, hydration (water, etc) for paddle, perhaps light snack as energy bar, apple, etc, water shoes (no flip-flops), windbreaker ( if you do not have, we can provide).

WHAT TO WEAR
  You will be wearing a life vest-mandatory

It is summer time with warm if not down right hot temperatures so bring plenty of hydration. Barnegat Bay water temperature is warm. Conditions may be less than perfect as far as getting wet so bring a change of clothing for dry ride home.

·         something on your feet is a must...water shoes NO sandals (no flip-flops because they fall off)

·         light weight quick drying shorts or pants · layers for top…as light weight quick drying light colored shirt w/nylon jacket · cap /hat · eyeglass safety strap suggested
WHAT TO BRING

·         Dry change of clothes (there are changing facilities) ·      towel · water bottle ·      insect repellent for back trails ·      Bag lunch (may be stored in NJ Kayak fridge)

NOTES
·         If you are exceptionally tall, short, or a large person (be honest)…Make sure NJ Kayak has your  approx. height and weight so you can be properly fitted in the right kayak.

·         Valuables, change of clothes, will be locked in vehicle. 

·         Cell phones are to be used for emergencies only. Conversation on cell will take place apart from group-. We prefer they not be used at all while on this adventure. They will not be brought in the kayak.

To speed check in:   You will be asked to sign a waiverBest to bring your kayak fee in cash minus deposit.

·          We will launch in light rain.  If unsafe weather is predicted NJ Kayak will call, so make sure you leave a contact number when you make your reservation. What is happening in Barnegat is not necessarily what is happening in your area.

Carmen & Lynn will escort you to the surrounding Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge where much of the education is provided.  Carmen and Lynn run their kayak program at a relaxed pace with continual personal education and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.
