The popular Adult & Family Kayak Clinics where developed as an affordable opportunity to experience coastal sea kayak touring with professional guide instructors.
Our mission at New Jersey Kayak is to provide the very best professional Coastal Sea Kayak Touring Instruction with impeccable friendly service.  The Professional Staff of New Jersey Kayak will provide all the skill levels of Coastal Sea Kayak Touring for novice to advanced.  It is our pleasure  to help you discover the lifelong sport & adventure of kayaking.

NJ Kayak is a unique kayak marina on Barnegat Bay in the town of Barnegat which is centrally located along the New Jersey coastline .  NJ Kayak is surrounded surrounding by The Edwin B. Forsthe National Wildlife Refuge (EBF, Barnegat Division).
The varied water / marsh enviornment along with profesional staff, make New Jersey Kayak the ideal  destination for coastal sea kayak intsruction & introduction to a great adventure sport.

Family Kayak Clinic Introduction to Coastal Sea Kayak Touring   Children 9-17  $ 25  /   Adult $ 35
             Please Note... Children must be accompanied by adult or guardian 18+
kayak-clinic_1s.jpg (59638 bytes) The Family Kayak Clinic is identical to the Adult Kayak Clinic in time (1 1/2 hours) & content.  The only differences are age appropriate grouping and in the special needs of families & needs of NJ Kayak for group safety.  For example, our staff may determine that the use of a tandem is a safer choice over a single kayak.

What is supplied:

Coastal Sea Touring Kayak equipped with rudder or skeg sized for each guest, quality kayak lifejacket (PFD) fitted for comfort & safety and quality fiberglass shaft paddle.


We take great care to fit each quest to their kayak from our extensive fleet of kayaks providing comfort & performance for all paddling interest & ability.

Dates:

Arrive 1/2 hour earlier than posted starting time for kayak selection, fitting of PFD & the signing of wavier.   All children (9+17) must have parent or guardian sign wavier.     printable    Adult    Family / Child
How to fit a Kayak & Terminology     What Kayak is right for You
The difference between a recreational kayak and a true sea touring kayak is explained.
Each quest is fitted to thier personal coastal sea touring kayak.
Safety & Equipment

Review basic gear and supplies to bring and how to dress for the weather.
Review navigational charts, aides to navagation, weather & tide conditions, etc

Basic Paddle Strokes:
Forward Stroke, Reverse Stroke, Turning Strokes ( forward & reverse sweep)
Advanced Strokes are demonstrated:  High Brace, Low Brace, Draw Stroke
How to use Rudder or Skeg:
Paddling with the aid of a rudder is useful in adverse wind & tide.
Includes tour of surrounding Wildlife Refuge
Once land kayak skills are demonsrated, you will practice what you have been tought and experience the joy of kayaking with one hour Tour of the surrounding EBF Wildlife Refuge!
