Day one:
The workings & terminology of a true coastal kayak is explained. Each student
is fitted to a child sized professional coastal kayak (equipped with rudder), a fitted
kayak lifejacket (PFD), and quality fiberglass shaft paddle. Paddling instruction is
given and demonstrated within NJ Kayaks protected waterfront location on Barnegat Bay.
Safety issues are reviewed before an introductory paddle to the surrounding Wildlife
Refuge. |
|
Day Two: The wet
exit and self rescue and assisted rescue is demonstrated, instructed and performed
by each student within the protected harbor. After each student has practiced the
wet exit, NJ Kayaks guide take a longer kayak tour to and within the
shallow water creeks and salt ponds of the surrounding Wildlife Refuge where varied
coastal birds can be observed.
Day Three: Depending on the weather and the interests of the
students, NJ Kayak will, for many, introduce the students to fishing, crabbing or sailing.
This is a great opportunity to experience Barnegat Bay in a different way. For many
children, it was their first experience and it was a great pleasure to introduce them to
these Barnegat bay activities. |
